Due to a major security flaw in Windows Operating Systems, we were forced to re-analyze our software update methodology in a very short time. For the best and most reliable results, we have had to change our policy. This means that all Windows OS users will now go directly to Microsoft to obtain its updates daily at 6:00PM.
In order for this change to take affect, you need to restart your computer. The changes will not work until this happens. Because many updates require a system restart, it is wise to save any work before leaving for the day.
Under normal circumstances, Microsoft releases updates monthly on Super Patch Tuesday which is the second Tuesday of the month. In urgent situations such as this one, an interim release may happen.
We are aware of how out-of-date some systems are. This may mean that several updates will run with this initial change. We encourage you to reboot as you are able to let your system become current.
Do not be alarmed if you are off campus and cannot reboot until you return. Once you arrive, please restart.
If you are a laptop user, we recommend running updates manually monthly as an extra precaution to account for frequent disconnects from the network.
