After considerable research, ITS believes that a DOS (Denial of Service) attack caused the Internet outage that occurred from 10:50PM to 2:30AM. These kinds of attacks are notoriously difficult to prevent. ITS is working to determine ways to address such issues more quickly to reduce downtime should they recur.

ITS is investigating the full cause of last night’s Internet outage from 10:50PM to 2:34AM. We will be issuing another email this afternoon before 6PM with specific information.

ITS learned late Saturday about construction in Fisk Hall that cut power to that building for 3 days. Fisk houses a distribution switch that serves many buildings. They had thought that they would be finished by 3 PM today, but ITS has learned that it will be approximately 8PM before power will be back on. … Read more
