Almost 11 years ago, ITS formally announced the opening of the Wesleyan Computer Store and Service Center, which is located on the first floor of the Exley Science Center. Many Wesleyan and Middletown community members have benefited from the convenience and excellence of service provided by the store and the service center staff. We are very pleased to let you all know that the computer store will move to the Usdan Center in August and will have a new name – Cardinal Technology Center. As soon as we have an exact opening date for the new store, we will announce it right here.
Month: May 2007
Wesleyan Post Office will be moving to the Usdan Center
In Early August, Wesleyan Station will be moving to the Usdan Center.
- Our main service window and individual student mailboxes will be located on the main lobby. This service window will offer sale of stamps and shipping support.
- All mail processing, including receiving, sorting, metering, and shipping, as well as student parcel processing, storage, and distribution, will take place in the lower level. This is the window that will support package pickup.
Transition to Microsoft Outlook/Exchange – an Integrated E-Mail & Calendaring Environment
Introduction
Wesleyan currently runs separate email and group calendaring (MeetingMaker) systems. We have been hearing from users about the desire to have a single system for email and group calendaring. Our users have also asked for better support for wireless PDAs, such as Palm devices, Mobile Windows devices, and Blackberries.
A New Centralized Filesharing System
Over the past few years we have received several complaints about the current file sharing infrastructure from many users. Our current systems are too fragmented, complicated to understand, and sharing files for collaboration typically requires ITS staff intervention.
To address these concerns as well as simplify the backend infrastructure, ITS will be rolling out a new filesharing system beginning this summer. The new system, Xythos, has a Web interface and can also be accessed via your Mac’s Finder or via Windows Explorer.
Students can choose to move their E-mail to Google
Google Apps for Education is an offering from Google whereby institutions such as ours can sign up to move our E-mail and calendaring activities to Google. We will soon be offering an application through the student electronic portfolio from where students can choose to move their email to Google.
